Lobelia
Lobelia inflata
Part Used: Herb in Seed. Lobelia is known as a "thinking" herb: increasing ennervation and relaxing tension where needed. Users vary widely in sensitivity to it's effects. It causes a momentary scratching sensation in the throat and in large enough doses will cause nausea due to relaxation of the stomach and at a large enough dose, emesis. Users start with small doses to gauge sensitivity. Used for relaxing and anti-spasmodic effects on involuntary muscles and on nerves. Relaxes bronchials: used for spasmodic asthma, spasmodic cough, tight chest. Intestinal obstruction, constipation due to tension. Convulsions, epilepsy. Gallbladder spasm and pain. Muscle tension in general. Angina pectoris. Relaxes cervix in labor. With similar effects to nicotine, it has been used to satisfy nicotine cravings. Contra-indicated in enlarged or fatty heart, valvular incompetence and pregnancy.
