Ask the Herbalist

Dear Bob Liebert,

I've had hemorroids for probably over 10 years that were minor and I could handle. This last year they have been very itchy and painful, even with using the stronger cream it only mildly helps for about an hour. I'm having to apply the cream about a dozen times a day, most the time with hardly any relief. In January, I had a significant amount of blood from one when I went to the bathroom, not to sound graphic but enough to fill an 8 ounce glass. The doctor ran a scope up my rectum and said the hemmoroids were not big enough to surgically remove and looked for polyps. Every time I go to my doctor he says the same thing and is not very sympathetic, also I am still in pain. Is there any herb that can heal this not just help you a few hours?

Dear Friend,

Herbs can often address the problem of chronic hemmorhoids very effectively, working internally to get at the causes. These herbs aid the strength of the veins, and aid venous circulation. Herbs that aid in liver and portal vein congestion are added; when there is congestion there, it will lead to congestion and pressure in the veins in the whole lower part of the body. Finally, some of the same herbs can control bleeding. Please see my HEMMORAID Formula, which is designed to address all of the above. I would suggest adding extra WITCH HAZEL extract, which I have seen help with bleeding in a short time.

Yours in healing,
Bob Liebert, herbalist
