Ask the Herbalist

Dear Bob Liebert,

I would appreciate your ideas on dealing with a chronic pain issue (broken back with multiple surgeries) has practically taken away a decent lifestyle, my boyfriend has become a couch potato and practically anything needing to be done is a problem, pain pills seems to be the only answer, help!

anonymous

Dear Friend,

Of the herb formulas I have designed, I would recommend the INFLAMMAID, containing Black Cohosh for muscle and nerve pain, Wild Yam as a muscle anti-spasmodic and relaxant, Prickly Ash as a pain reliever and circulatory stimulant, and Meadowsweet as a pain reliever. If spinal nerve pain is acute I would add ST. JOHN'S WORT and SKULLCAP extracts.

Externally I would recommend the HERBAL LINIMENT (tissue repair and pain relief) alternated with LOBELIA extract as a muscle relaxer. I could make some recommendations for the boyfriend problem, but I'll stick with the herbs for now!

Yours in healing,
Bob Liebert, herbalist
