Ask the Herbalist

Dear Bob Liebert,

Just sent an email to you about my father's condition, a cancer patient with weak kidneys and swelling hands and legs. He also suffers from COPD and is on inhalers now. Which herbs are good for COPD ?

I have frequent urine problems, to some extent so urgent that I am near to the stage of lose control of passing urine. What herbs could help?

Your earliest advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you and best regards.

Dear Friend,

In looking at your father's case the following came to mind: the extracts of MULLEIN (lungs, dry cough, excess water) and LOBELIA (to relax the lungs, can sometimes replace inhalers); can add DANDELION LEAF (a diuretic that does not simulate the kidneys) at a later time if the excess water isn't gone.

I would recommend the GRAVEL ROOT extract for frequent, painful urination. If stress or tension is a factor (which affects bladder) you may add the NERVAID Formula of relaxing herbs.

Yours in healing,
Bob Liebert, herbalist
