Ask the Herbalist

Dear Bob Liebert,

I've had one c-section with 3 VBACs. With my last 2 deliveries, my water broke and was gushing. My labor was not very productive without pitosin (which I prefer not to take). I am going to be having another baby in about 6 weeks. What can I take prior to or during labor and delivery if this happens again.

Dear Friend,

Blue Cohosh extract promotes the release of pitocin, and is used in stalled labor. Small doses can be taken for the last three weeks of pregnancy, and as needed during labor. Squaw Vine extract is good to take for the last 3 to 6 weeks as a general tonic for easy delivery. Raspberry Leaf tea can be drunk as well. A good labor combination is Blue and Black Cohosh, Beth Root and a little Ginger added.

Yours in healing,
Bob Liebert, herbalist
