Ask the Herbalist

Dear Bob Liebert,

I am a 31 year old woman with PCOS, endometriosis and hypothyroidism. I have read that natural progesterone cream may help all of these conditions. Can you give me any advice about this or alternatives.

Sandra

Dear Friend,

I would suggest the extracts of Chaste Berry (a natural progesterone balancer), Black Haw (endometriosis) and Maca Root extract (hormonal imbalances with hypothyroidism). Hypothyroidism can lead to many symptoms of hormone imbalance. These can all be taken together. The progesterone cream is not any more natural than progesterone that a doctor may prescribe, just in a lesser dose being absorbed through the skin. I would think the natural approach with herbs, which stimulates the body in its own balance of hormones, to be a preferred first try. See also the article on Wild Yam under Featured Herbs on our site.

Yours in healing,
Bob Liebert, herbalist
