Ask the Herbalist

Dear Bob Liebert,

I have had two consecutive miscarriages, the first at 11 1/2 weeks, the second somewhere between 7 and 8 1/2 weeks. The second one was weird. My husband asked one day how I was feeling and I told him I didn't feel pregnant anymore. Sure enough on the full moon I began to bleed. (I nearly always begin menses with the full moon) My mid-wife and I are suspecting low progesterone levels, and are awaiting an appointment to have more extensive bloodwork done. So my question is in regards to staying pregnant. I've been reading up on chaste tree berry and using it at ovulation. Any thoughts on this herb or others?

Thank you,
Amy

Dear Friend,

The Chaste Berry will help promote progesterone balance, but the best preventative I know of is the Black Haw Bark. The Eclectic doctors used it in cases of repeated miscarriage. I have also seen it stop a number of miscarriages in progress. As a preventative, smaller doses are used twice a day; larger doses in case of possible miscarriage. False Unicorn also aids fertility and is a uterine tonic and preparator for pregnancy. Raspberry Leaf tea is good. But the Black Haw is the one I've seen the best results with.

Thanks,
Bob
