Ask the Herbalist

Dear Bob Liebert,

Is there any herbs that will help reduce the onset of vericose veins/spider veins?

Stefanie

Dear Friend,

Two types of herbs are thought of: The first are herbs that de-congest the liver and the portal vein; the main vein that passes through the liver. When the portal vein becomes congested, the veins basically from the liver down can suffer from poor return circulation, causing them to break down. Milk Thistle is a traditional herb for portal congestion with poor venous circuilation. Other herbs are generally somewhat astringent and strengthening to the veins. These include Witch Hazel, Stone Root, Horse Chestnut, Butcher's Broom. Our Hemmoraid Formula has such herbs (their being an aid, of course, in hemmorhoids as well). White Oak and Witch Hazel are both used externally. A strong tea or extract of White Oak is probably the strongest. The White Oak extract can be taken in small doses internally for severe cases.

Thanks,
Bob

You can buy these herbs and many more in the Formula and Single Herb sections of the Teeter Creek Herb website. Herbs that don't appear in the Formula or Single Herb lists can usually be requested in the "Message" section at the bottom of the order page.
